Hillary Olson, Kate Bennett, and Dean Briere hosted the 2019 ASMD Directors Forum in Rochester and Ithaca, New York on February 4-6. The Rochester Museum & Science Center served as the base of operations, and we had a room block with the nearby Strathallan Hotel in Rochester. The meeting featured a day trip to Ithaca to explore Sciencenter, the Cornell Lab of Ornithology, and the Museum of the Earth with their leadership staff and outstanding science communicators.
The program committee, ASMD Vice President Julie Stein, ASMD President Sarah George, Kate Bennett, Dean Briere, and Bonnie Styles, developed an invigorating program that featured the Directors’ Round Table, a panel discussion about addressing polarizing issues, frank dialog on hot topics, presentations by thought leaders, insights from our host museums and their Directors, behind-the-scenes exploration of other local museums including the George Eastman Museum and the Strong National Museum of Play in Rochester with members of their leadership teams, and ample time to brainstorm about shared issues and concerns with your colleagues. The final program and schedule for the 2019 ASMD Directors Forum is posted here and under Updates for Members.
